How did you Meet?
We met at my Kappa Probate After Party at Club Kaffe Krystal in Miami, FL on 03/26/2009. I asked her to take a picture of some of my friends and myself. I just happened to notice how beautiful she was in this white outfit. So after she took the picture, I spoke to her and gave her my phone number since my phone was dead at the time, hoping she would call or text. Obviously she contacted me later on but it took about a week for her to do so haha.
How long did you all date?
We dated for about 5 years however, 2 of those years were long distance as she had moved back to the Atlanta, GA area to attend the University of Georgia. I was still in Miami, FL finishing my undergraduate program.
Can you give me a summary of your special day?
We actually had two wedding ceremonies. The first was a Vietnamese traditional wedding ceremony in Jacksonville, FL on 08/03/2014. The Vietnamese wedding ceremony consisted of my parents asking for permission to receive the bride with offering of gifts, tea ceremony and candle lightning. Chryssy wore the traditional Vietnamese dress called Áo dài while I wore a simpler version of the Áo dài. The reception included a 9-course dinner, open bar and a time to dance off the long day.
The second and official Wedding Ceremony was on 08/09/2014 in Smyrna, GA. This special day consisted of the traditional American Wedding as we were married by Pastor Newton, which is her sister’s Husband. The fellas had very nice tan linen suits with a mixture of coral or mint green ties. Essentially, we were fresh to death, in my opinion. Chryssy had on a beautiful wedding gown and the ladies had on mint green dresses. We had amazing drinks that were specially named using our nicknames for each other such as Chryssy Boo and Baby Cakes from the open bar. The food was also pretty good and we actually had time to eat at this day versus the ceremony and reception in Jacksonville.
The entire day was special to me. I was able to marry the love of my life while being able to party and see all the old family and friends I have not seen in forever. It was amazing for both events. I enjoyed the speeches from the bride and groom party. They all had something funny and good to say.
What was one surprising thing you found out about your spouse after you got married?
I didn’t really find anything new. I feel like we have known each other for so long that we are just one now. However, she has not been able to finish a movie with me since we got married. She been pretty tired lately from all the numerous engagements she is involved in from dance and her full-time job.
I wish I could invite more people to enjoy our special day. There were so many people I wanted to invite or they couldn’t attend due to circumstances. However, we are pretty happy not to deal with planning a wedding anymore since it is over now.
What is the best piece marriage of advice you have received?
Continue to date your wife. It is important to treat her as if you have just met her and you want to impress her. Women want to feel special and loved, whether they express so or not. They will appreciate it in the end. Take turns planning a date night one day/night out of each week to keep things fresh.
I would advise other couples to continue to date each other and change things up in their relationship as often as possible. Do not do the same thing over and over to the point where you form habits. Marriage and relationship require a lot of work and planning if you want to make it work. Every little detail matters in some way so be prepared to communicate and talk about everything because it will come to light later on somehow, whether it is secrets, finances, feelings, etc. Also Happy Wife, Happy Life…
